Our client, One Manchester Housing are continuing their unwavering support and commitment to East Manchester through the continued regeneration plans for the Grey Mare Lane estate in Beswick, Manchester.
The demolition of unsuitable 1970’s system built housing is starting to gain momentum. Contractor, Metropolitan Demolition have been working on removing the flats and maisonettes that are earmarked for regeneration since late Autumn.
Metropolitan have completed the asbestos removal and the soft strip of the first block with physical demolition now commencing and changing the skyline of Grey Mare Lane for ever.
These final demolitions which are due for completion in spring of 2026 will pave the way for their replacement by new and energy efficient apartments and housing.
Our Managing Director, Darowen Jones has been working with One Manchester Housing on the scheme since February 2024. Darowen said ‘Seeing the demolition physically start is hugely rewarding and is a key milestone not only for our client and ourselves but for those residents of the estate who have worked with us so positively over the last 18 months to make this next step possible.’
The Grey Mare Lane estate in Beswick sits in the shadow of the Manchester City Football complex which includes the Etihad arena. The masterplan will see several hundred new homes brought into the area by maximising brownfield land and replacing unsuitable housing.
